Breast Augmentation-Mastopexy in Kelowna
A breast-augmentation mastopexy is a form of breast surgery that combines the breast enhancement and breast lift procedures to provide a completely rejuvenated breast.
Breast Mastopexy: This procedure acts to lift breasts which may have been lowered for a number of reasons (including age and pregnancy). The result is often a more youthful and attractive appearance.
Breast Augmentation: While a breast augmentation doesn’t lift the breasts, it is designed to enlarge the size and projection of the breast.
When is a breast augmentation-mastopexy recommended?
There are several reasons why your plastic surgeon may recommend that you combine a breast augmentation with a mastopexy. Some of these include if your:
- breasts have drooped from pregnancy, weight loss or age
- breasts are noticeably asymmetrical
- nipples are overstretched from breastfeeding
- your natural, fully-developed breasts are smaller and sit lower than you would like
However, your candidacy for a breast augmentation-mastopexy will depend on a number of factors, so it’s important to speak to your plastic surgeon before deciding upon any plastic surgery.
How is a Breast Augmentation-Mastopexy Performed
When performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon, a breast augmentation-mastopexy is a safe and effective procedure. It takes up to 3 hours to perform and is commonly done under general anaesthesia.
Step 1: The most common and least invasive way to perform this surgery is via an inframammary incision (just under the breast, in the breast fold.)
Step 2: The breast augmentation is completed using either silicone or saline implants
Step 3: The mastopexy will then be performed by repositioning the nipple to a higher position to sit directly in front of the implant. Excess skin or tissue is then removed to achieve the ideal shape and position of the breast.
Step 4: Finally, the incisions will be closed using stitches. Bandages, tape and gauze will be applied to support the area and to assist with healing.
Recovering From a Breast Augmentation-Mastopexy
Combined breast lift and augmentation surgeries are typically performed as an outpatient procedure, and in most cases, you will be able to return home from the hospital on the day of your procedure.
In order to ensure the safest, most satisfying results, here are a few things you should know about the recovery period after an augmentation-mastopexy.
Recovering From a Brest Augmentation-Mastopexy:
- Most patients can return to work within 1 week of the procedure, depending on the amount of activity your job requires.
- Your breasts will feel sensitive to direct stimulation for the first 2-3 weeks.
- NO heavy lifting, pushing or pulling with the upper body for at least 2 weeks after the surgery.
- NO activity that causes an increase in your heart rate or blood pressure for 14 days.
- Your surgical scars will appear firm and pink for 6 weeks. They will eventually fade, though may not disappear completely.
