What To Expect After A Neck Lift

Neck Lift Aftercare & Recovery

Performed as an isolated procedure or integrated in a facelift, a neck lift tackles one of the earliest onset ageing issues, allowing for a comprehensive re-contouring and rejuvenation of the neck.

Plastic surgeons use neck lifts to correct a number of concerns including:

  • Loose neck skin
  • Excess fatty deposits in/around the neck
  • Jowls
  • Muscle banding in the neck

Our Kelowna plastic surgeons often combine neck lifts with other cosmetic procedures such as eyelid surgery or brow lifts for the most aesthetically-pleasing, natural looking results.

Necklift Recovery Period

Recovery is a crucial part of the neck lift surgery process and you should be prepared to follow the recovery guidelines provided by your plastic surgeon.

Patients who are committed to the healing process will achieve safer and more sustainable outcomes & may be ready to resume their normal routine relatively faster.

First 24 Hours After A Necklift

  • Immediately after the plastic surgery, a compression dressing is placed around your face and head to reduce any swelling. This will most often be removed the following morning.

  • In the first 24 hours, make sure you have a responsible family member or friend stay with you. Movement will be difficult but the soreness and pain in the incision areas can be managed with the pain medications recommended by your plastic surgeon.

Week 1

  • During the first week after your neck lift, get plenty of rest. Short walks at home are often recommended to promote blood flow. In addition, wear loose-fitting comfortable clothes.

  • Vigorous activities should be avoided in the first few weeks, even after you have returned to work. Your plastic surgeon will be able to advise when it is safe to return to your exercise regimen.

Week 2-4

  • Bruising will mostly subside by the second week after the neck lift but the swelling will take a little longer. It will fade away gradually over several weeks.

  • It is important to be particularly alert to any signs of pus at the incision sites, persistent pain or fever. Get in touch with your plastic surgeon immediately if you have any recovery concerns.

Necklift Temporary Side Effects

Some of the most common side effects associated with neck lift surgery include:

  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Pain
  • Discomfort
  • Mild scarring (will hardly be visible after healing)

Bruising, swelling and discomfort are most severe during the first 2-3 days following the neck lift but they will begin to subside shortly after. Within 2 weeks of the procedure, you will begin to notice the aesthetic results of the neck lift more clearly.

**NOTE** These side effects may be more prolonged or severe if the neck lift was performed in combination with a facelift or other plastic surgeries.

Neck Lift Results

Neck lift results typically improve during the weeks following the surgery and may continue to do so even after the healing is completed. Most patients will achieve optimal results within six months of the surgery.

By following your plastic surgeon’s post-op care instructions such as refraining from smoking, drinking or other habits that could hamper your recovery, you will achieve your desired results much faster.

How long will my neck lift results last?

Following the neck lift, you will experience incredible results including tighter and firmer neck skin and a more defined jaw line. These results can last for ten years or more.
