Hand Surgery

Our hands are one of the most vital parts of our body. They are capable of an enormous variety of functions such as touching, feeling, holding and grasping. Hand surgery refers to plastic surgery procedures which are performed to treat traumatic injuries or repair any loss of function in your hands which may have resulted from diseases such as arthritis. Hand surgery is a very individualized procedure and can be performed on people of all ages. It can be used to treat hands that have experienced injuries from:

  • Burns
  • Cuts
  • Crushing injuries
  • Congenital deformities
  • Repetitive stress injuries
  • Torn tendons

Hand surgery is a very specialized field of plastic surgery and our highly-trained, knowledgeable surgeons use the most innovative and advanced technology to ensure that the strength, function and flexibility of your wrists and fingers fully returns.

Dupuytren’s Contracture (Palmar Fasciectomy)

Dupuytren’s Contracture is a progressive disease which causes your fingers to bend towards the palm, restricting your ability to straighten your fingers and use your hands normally. Surgical removal of the abnormal tissue is the main treatment for Dupuytren’s contracture. During an in-depth consultation with one of our plastic surgeons, they will assess whether the condition causes significant problems and if surgery will likely improve the condition before deciding on the best course of action.

Carpal Tunnel Release

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a hand condition caused by a pinched nerve which results in numbness, tingling and pain. If all the non-surgical treatment options have been exhausted and your symptoms still persist, then carpal tunnel release surgery may be the most appropriate option. The goal of this surgery is to relieve the pressure on your carpal tunnel nerve by cutting the ligament which is pressing on it.

Ganglion Cyst Removal

A ganglion cyst is a noncancerous lump that most commonly develops on your wrist or hand. Depending on its location, a ganglion cyst can restrict movement and, if it presses down on a nerve, can cause significant pain. Open removal is the surgical treatment of choice for ganglion cyst removal amongst our experienced plastic surgeons and it involves removing the cyst as well as part of the tendon sheath.

Wrist Arthroscopy

Wrist arthroscopy is hand surgery that uses a small camera to examine and repair the tissues inside your wrist. This procedure allows our plastic surgeons to diagnose the problem and make the appropriate repairs to your hand without making larger cuts in your skin, allowing for a quicker and less painful recovery.

Tendon Repair

Hand tendon repair surgery is recommended when one or more of the tendons in your hand are damaged or torn, leading to pain and a loss of normal hand function. Tendon repair involves one of our surgeons making a small incision in your wrist or hand in order to locate the ends of the damaged tendon and then stitching them back together.
