Due to aging and forces of gravity, many women in Kelowna are looking for ways to improve the lift and/or shape of their breasts. Depending on your concerns, cosmetic breast surgery, such as a breast lift or augmentation, can address a number of issues, such as:
- Sagging breasts
- Asymmetrical/misshapen breasts
- Disproportionately heavy breasts
- Small breasts
Customized Breast Lift/Augmentation at our Private Kelowna Hospital
Breast surgery is not a one-size-fits-all solution. From breast lifts and breast augmentations to a breast reduction, the board-certified plastic surgeons at our Kelowna private hospital have the expertise and knowledge to counsel you on which cosmetic procedure(s) is best for you.
Recovering From a Breast Augmentation Surgery
A breast augmentation is usually associated with a relatively straight-forward recovery, but as with all cosmetic surgeries, it’s important to follow your plastic surgeon’s post-procedure instructions to ensure you receive the safest and most satisfactory results.
Timeline: The recovery period for a breast augmentation can range from 4 -6 weeks.
What to expect from your breast augmentation recovery:
- You should make arrangements for a responsible adult (family member or friend) to bring you to our private hospital and take you home after the procedure.
- Once you arrive home, you’ll be instructed to rest for the first couple of days, following your surgery.
- It is likely that you will have some numbness following your surgery. This is normal and should be expected. Normal sensation will return over time.
- You will experience some discomfort, swelling and bruising of your breasts, but this can be eased by wearing a surgical bra.
- If the implants are placed beneath the muscle, you can expect some very sore chest muscles and a lot of pressure on your chest.
- If the implants are placed over the muscle, you will have some pressure and soreness, but no sore muscles.
- For the first two days, you will be instructed to AVOID nicotine, alcohol and blood-thinning medications such as aspirin.
- For roughly ONE MONTH after your breast augmentation, you will be restricted from doing any upper body exercises such as push-ups and weightlifting.
What to AVOID after your breast augmentation
While a breast augmentation recovery process is relatively short, with most people feeling back to their normal selves within a few days, there are some limitations on upper body activities you should adhere to.
DO NOT:
- Sleep on your sides or stomach for at least 6 weeks after your surgery.
- Run, jump or perform any other vigorous physical activity that will make your breasts bounce, as this could potentially break open your wounds and dislodge your implants.
- Get your wounds wet for the first 2-5 days after surgery.
- Remove your surgical bra and compression bands until your plastic surgeon has advised you to do so.
- Wear an underwire bra for at least 6 weeks after your surgery.
- Have a bath for 2 weeks. You can shower, but make sure to thoroughly dry your wounds afterwards.
What to Look For After Your Surgery
If any of the following should occur, please contact our private Kelowna hospital immediately:
- Bleeding soaks through your bandages and does not seem to be stopping (small spots of blood are normal)
- One or both breasts seem significantly swollen after surgery
- Severe headaches
- Feeling short of breath or having difficulty catching your breath
- A pain deep inside your chest
