Top Surgical Facial Rejuvenation Treatments

Signs of aging may be more visible on the face than any other area of the body. Surgical facial rejuvenation uses a variety of procedures to combat a number of anti-aging concerns such as unwanted wrinkles and sagging features.

Some of these procedures include:

1. Necklift

A necklift surgery is a safe and efficient cosmetic procedure that can help reshape the skin around the neck and jaw, reducing the appearance of sagging skin and wrinkles. It can be used to address a number of concerns including:

  • Excess fat and skin in the lower face (jowls)
  • Excess fatty deposits under the chin (double chin)
  • Loose skin and muscle banding in the neck
  • Uneven contours
Recovering From a Necklift

Recovery time for this procedure will depend on the individual patient, but typically it is advised that you take 1-2 weeks off work as there will be bruising and swelling which may take around 10 days to subside.

Your surgeon may also recommend that you avoid exercise and heavy lifting for a few weeks following your necklift surgery.

2. Eyelid Surgery

As we age, the skin around our eyes starts to lose its elasticity. It’s not uncommon to develop eye-bags and sagging eyelids. In addition, upper eyelids may begin to droop. This effect is often heightened in patients who are smokers or who have had excessive exposure to the sun.

Eyelid surgery is a common cosmetic procedure that can benefit both men and women, helping you achieve a fresher, more youthful facial appearance.

Some of the issues eyelid surgery can address include:

  • Sagging skin around the eyes
  • Drooping eyelids, improving your vision
  • Excess skin/pockets of fat from upper and lower eyelids
  • Wrinkles around the eyes

At Okanagan Health Surgical Centre, eyelid surgery is tailored to a patient’s individual needs. During a pre-surgical consultation, one of our plastic surgeons will discuss the options that are best suited to your aesthetic goals.

3. Nasal Surgery

The nose is a central feature of the face and how it looks can determine how we feel about our overall appearance. Rhinoplasty, or nasal surgery, is designed to change the size, shape and position of the nose to help patients feel more confidence in their appearance.

A nasal surgery can treat:

  • A nose profile with visible depressions or humps on the bridge
  • A nasal tip that is enlarged, bulbous, upturned or hooked
  • Wide, large or upturned nostrils
  • Nasal asymmetry

When performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon, a rhinoplasty can successfully correct proportion and create a more pleasing facial balance.

Dermabrasion: Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation Treatment

Dermabrasion is a safe and effective non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatment that consists of a mechanical removal, or ‘surgical sanding’ of damaged skin to reveal healthier and more beautiful skin below.

What it does

Dermabrasion softens sharp contours and irregularities caused by wrinkles, scarring and acne, creating new skin that has a smooth and refreshed appearance.

It can be used to treat a number of skin concerns including:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Small acne scars
  • Facial scars
  • Freckles and brown-spots
  • Blood vessel damage
  • Pre-cancerous growths
  • Uneven pigmentation and sun-damage
How it works

Dermabrasion is an outpatient procedure that can be done under local or general anesthetic. Once this has taken effect, your skin care specialist will remove the dead and damaged skin layers with a rough tool, usually a brush with diamond particles, or an abrasive motorized sander.

The procedure can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour and a half, depending on the extent of work your skin desires.

The Recovery

The amount of dermabrasion your skin needs will also determine how long your recovery will be. It typically takes 7-14 days before you can return to your daily activities.

Repeat Treatments

If your skin has more extensive damage, it may be necessary to have multiple dermabrasion treatments to get your skin to the desired result.

Dermabrasion can be repeated as many times as you like, as long as you give yourself plenty of time to heal in between treatments
