5 Signs of a Botched Breast Augmentation Surgery

If you are considering a breast surgery, whether it’s an augmentation or a breast mastopexy, you must be diligent in making sure that your procedure goes as smoothly as possible. That’s why it’s so important to do research prior to selecting your plastic surgeon.

If you suspect that you have been given a botched breast augmentation procedure, you must seek the advice of a trusted medical professional to get your situation checked out. Here are some signs that your breast augmentation surgery has gone wrong:

1. Your Implants Feel Unusually Firm

Do your implants feel too firm, and not soft and supple? Typically, the first sign of a botched breast augmentation is that your implants feel too hard. Your surgeon may have used poor quality implants, and if this is the case, you may have to have those implants removed and replaced with better quality ones.

2. Poor Positioning of Implants

In some cases, a surgeon may have made the mistake of positioning one breast implant higher than the other. If you have noticed this asymmetrical positioning, you must meet with your surgeon to discuss ways in which it can be corrected.

This is also a problem found with breast lift surgery and it would require corrective surgery to give you the results you desire.

Different Sized Implants

If, after having your implants inserted, you notice that one breast seems bigger than the other, you must tell your plastic surgeon immediately. This could happen if two different sized implants were used or your surgeon didn’t take into account the size or shape of your breasts prior to surgery.

How to correct this: To correct this, you will have to undergo corrective surgery, preferably with a surgeon who is better qualified.

3. You Notice Some Rupture or Leak

Although rupturing of implants can sometimes accidentally happen, this is usually a sign of a botched surgery. If there is a leakage in your saline implants, you will notice them changing shape over a few days. On the other hand, silicone ruptures are harder to detect and signs could include unusual breast lumps, soreness, swelling, and aching.

4. You Have Wrinkled Skin

If you notice any wrinkling around your implant, you should talk to your surgeon, as it could also be a sign that your implant is leaking. After a breast augmentation, your skin should be smooth and wrinkle free.

5. You Have Signs of General Sickness

A botched breast augmentation surgery can also cause signs of general sickness, which may include high fever, constant pain, excessive scarring, hardening of the breasts, as well as inflammation and itching.

What Should I Do If I Suspect I Had a Botched Breast Augmentation?

If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, it’s best that you visit a board-certified plastic surgeon immediately. They will be able to advise you on the treatment you need, and whether or not you require corrective surgery.
