List of Things to Prepare Before & After Your Breast Augmentation Surgery
Are you undergoing a breast augmentation surgery? Preparing for it beforehand will ensure that your procedure will go much more smoothly. To make you pre and post-surgery process more comfortable and stress-free.
Things to Remove Before Breast Surgery
Before you go into your breast augmentation surgery, there are certain things you should remove to ensure your procedure goes safely.
This includes:
- Dentures
- Nail polish
- Contact lenses
- Jewellery
- Supplement and contraceptive pills (at least 2 weeks before the procedure)
If you have any questions about what items/medications to remove or stop taking before your procedure, you should discuss this with your plastic surgeon, as they can give you a comprehensive list.
Buy Some Easy to Wear Tops
When you’re at the hospital, you will be given a medical gown to wear so you won’t need any clothes, but after your surgery, you should have some loose clothing at home to wear, such as button or zip up tops.
Why? Buying easy to slip on clothes is crucial to your comfort because you’ll want to avoid lifting your arms after surgery, or manoeuvring them into tight and restrictive clothing.
Keep Some Cleansing Wipes
Having a large packet of cleansing wipes on hand will prove to be very convenient after surgery as showering is often difficult. You’ll want to keep the area dry until the stitches are removed, so cleansing wipes can keep you feeling clean and fresh until you have the opportunity to shower.
Post-Surgery Bras
Your plastic surgeon will advise you to avoid underwire bras for at least a month following your surgery. It’s often recommended that you buy front fastening bras that fit loosely around the surgical area so you won’t disrupt the healing process.
Tip: As you’re healing, never choose bras that have to be worn over your head. Also, when your stitches are being removed, bring along a soft bra to wear afterwards.
Recovery Foods
To quicken your recovery period, you should give thought to the food you’ll be eating.
Besides nutritional supplements, some of the foods you should stock up on include:
- Nuts such as cashews, almonds, walnuts and pine nuts as they’re good for healing skin tissues.
- Seeds like pumpkin, sesame, and sunflower seeds as they help with tissue regeneration.
- Fruits such as apples, bananas, kiwi, and pineapple, to boost your immune system.
- Proteins such as chicken, fish, and eggs as they will help repair any damaged tissue. For vegetarians, you can replace meat with beans or soy.
If you can, try to eat smaller portions, as you want your body to focus its energy on healing and not digesting large amounts of food. In addition, keep away from spicy food as this causes inflammation, as well as alcohol, caffeine, and smoking.
Tip: Don’t forget to get adequate water consumption, as this is beneficial for better body function during healing.
