A leader in urological care, Okanagan Health Centre has a team of urology surgeons with diverse clinical experience and expertise in state-of-the-art procedures and technologies. We provide vasectomy reversals for our male patients who may wish to reverse a primary vasectomy procedure.

A vasectomy is a surgical procedure that is considered to be a permanent method of birth control by preventing the release of sperm when a man ejaculates. However, contrary to popular belief, a vasectomy is not permanent nor is it irreversible. There are many instances in which a man may decide to reverse the procedure which include:

  • Remarrying
  • Restoring fertility
  • Changing their initial decision not to have a family

A vasectomy reversal is a surgery that can be performed to reverse a vasectomy. It is usually performed as an outpatient surgery and can be done under local or general anesthesia, depending on the patient and the complexity of the situation. During the procedure, one of our surgeons reconnects each tube that carries sperm from a testicle into the semen using an operating microscope. The surgery typically takes 3-4 hours after which, sperm are again present in the semen and you may be able to get your partner pregnant.

Many factors affect the success rate of a vasectomy reversal in achieving a pregnancy including the time since your vasectomy, your partner’s age and your health. Our highly trained urologic surgeons are able to develop an individualized, custom surgical plan depending on your unique needs to ensure the highest success rate possible.
