Gynecology is a specialty that encompasses the diagnosis, prevention and management of a wide spectrum of conditions and diseases affecting women’s reproductive health. Okanagan Health Centre is at the forefront of technological advances in the gynecology field, enabling our highly trained gynecologists to provide our patients with high quality care and minimally invasive, safe and effective treatments for common gynecologic problems. We provide reversal of tubal ligation for our female patients who may want to reverse their primary tubal ligation surgery.
Tubal ligation (tubectomy) is a surgical procedure for sterilization in which a woman’s fallopian tubes are blocked, tied or cut. However, some women who have had tubal ligations sometimes regret their decision and seek to reverse the procedure. Our highly trained, expert surgeons are able to give you back your fertility through the reversal of tubal ligation (tubal reanastomosis). Some of the benefits of this procedure include:
Reversal tubal ligation is performed under general anesthesia and usually as an outpatient procedure. During the surgery, one of our surgeons will place a laparoscope, a small camera, into the pelvis area through your belly button. This allows them to view your fallopian tubes and determine whether the reversal procedure is possible.
If your previous tubal ligation can be reversed, microscopic instruments attached to the laparoscope will allow the surgeon to remove the clips used to block your tubes and reconnect them to your uterus, using extremely small stitches. Overall, the surgery will take approximately 2-3 hours.
The success rate of the reversal of tubal ligation depends on several factors including the sperm quality of your male partner, your age, the quality and quantity of your eggs as well as the type of tubal ligation surgery you have previously undergone.
At Okanagan Health Centre, our team of dedicated gynecologists will develop a personalized surgical plan depending on your unique circumstances and requirements to ensure the highest success rate possible.
